Stupidity lives on

“Intelligent Design versus Evolution” is a new board game that was designed by actor Kirk Cameron and best-selling author Ray Comfort, to help fight against the what they maintain is the brainwashing of an entire generation.

Cameron said, “We are very excited about this game because it presents both sides of the creation evolution argument, and in doing so, shows that the contemporary theory of evolution is perhaps the greatest hoax of modern times.”

Stupidity lives on. Go to the link and check out the idiotic pictures they have of a cow crossed with a frog and other similar both-sides-of-the-story pictures. I am surprised people like this exist.

The First Vicitim?

Filed under: Global Warming — agsharma @ 6:16 am

For the global warming naysayers, can you please explain this?

Rising seas, caused by global warming, have for the first time washed an inhabited island off the face of the Earth. The obliteration of Lohachara island, in India’s part of the Sundarbans where the Ganges and the Brahmaputra rivers empty into the Bay of Bengal, marks the moment when one of the most apocalyptic predictions of environmentalists and climate scientists has started coming true.

It has been officially recorded in a six-year study of the Sunderbans by researchers at Calcutta’s Jadavpur University. So remote is the island that the researchers first learned of its submergence, and that of an uninhabited neighbouring island, Suparibhanga, when they saw they had vanished from satellite pictures.

I just find it funny how some people keep saying that there is no “conclusive evidence” of global warming when the truth is right in front of their eyes.

Why Oh Why Does He Put His Foot In His Mouth?

Filed under: Stéphane Dion — agsharma @ 2:35 pm

In the next federal election (whenever it happens), I will probably vote for S. Dion of the Liberal party. I have always liked his message and even though he was not able to accomplish much during his tenure in the environment ministry, it seems his heart is in the right place.

However, if he continues to put his foot in his mouth like this again and again, I might have to re-think my opinion of him :

OTTAWA - The possibility of a spring election surfaced yesterday as Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion said he expects to oppose the next Conservative budget. This would mean he would join with Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe, his old political foe, who has already declared he too is willing to topple Stephen Harper’s minority government.

……….Mr. Dion said it will be hard for Mr. Harper to cobble together a budget that meets the approval of the House. “Would I [be] able to say to my colleagues, I love the budget that Mr.
Harper is presenting? It’s very unlikely,” Mr. Dion said at a press conference on the day after the close of Parliament’s fall session.

OK. What the hell was that? He has not even seen the budget and he is ready to hate it? Is he, after all is done and said, a typical politician? God, I hope not. I have much expectation from this guy.

* An airport in US was forced to take down the Christmas tree because of objection raised by a Rabbi.
* A courthouse in Ontario was forced by a judge to take down a Christmas tree.
* Mall employees all around North America are forced to say "Happy Holidays" to customers instead of the "Merry Christmas".

What the f*uck is going on?

The reason in each of these cases, given by the authorities, is that the "other" religion groups might object to this kind of "overt display of Christianity".

Now, I belong to an "other" religion group. Most of my friends and family are from "other" religion groups. Can these authorities explain why 80% of us have a Christmas tree in our houses and the rest are thinking about putting one up? Whenever I greet someone this season I always wish them a "merry Christmas" and everyone I know does the same. So, who exactly is getting offended by all this display of Christmas decorations and greetings?

Granted the airport authorities took down the Christmas tree after mistaking the Rabbi’s objection to the absence of Menorah (Jews celebrate Hanukah during Christmas). he was not objecting the Christmas tree. The knee jerk reaction by the authorities was rectified but it proves that the authorities don’t like to confront hard questions (and avoid non-existent law suits) and do the easy thing instead of the right one.

The courthouse in Ontario also put back the Christmas tree after McGuinty (Ontario’s Liberal Leader) insisted it be put back as this is a tradition going back a number of years. Why the hell would someone object to a Christmas tree?

I also don’t have patience for someone (like John Derringer of Q107) who insists that they will put on Christmas tree and decorations and the hell with anyone who objects. So much Christmas spirit!! Try educating an immigrant the value and meaning of Christmas instead of cramming it down their throats, will ya!

So Much For "Strategic Partnership"

Filed under: Bush Administration — agsharma @ 10:06 am

So much has been said about the relationship between the current US administration and Saudi Arabia., but this really takes the cake and the icing too. The government of Saudi Arabia has said it will side with the Sunnis in the civil war in Iraq. And this has been conveyed to Dick Cheney in his recent visit to Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia has told the Bush administration that it might provide financial backing to Iraqi Sunnis in any war against Iraq’s Shias if the United States pulls its troops out of Iraq, according to American and Arab diplomats.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia conveyed that message to Vice-President Dick Cheney two weeks ago during Cheney’s whirlwind visit to Riyadh, the officials said. During the visit, King Abdullah also expressed strong opposition to diplomatic talks between the United States and Iran, and pushed for Washington to encourage the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians, senior Bush administration officials said.

The master is now dictating terms to the servant!! The Saudi Arabians are going to involve themselves in the civil war going on in Iraq and have told the Bush administration that they would do so. With the Iranians siding Shias, are we looking at a full fledge proxy war here? I’d say, yes. And who is going to be stuck in Iraq while this is going on? US and it’s coalition of the willing.

Life On Mars

Filed under: Uncategorized — agsharma @ 6:32 am

So, the question is, are we now going to find life in another planet?

Water flows on Mars.

In one image, a shining snake of light flows from a hidden spring into a crater’s depression, an orbiting camera aboard NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor catching sunlight reflected by the evaporating liquid. In another, a smear of ice grows mysteriously over a period of years, expanding like a slow-motion inkblot over the red planet’s parched landscape.

“If this was coming down the slope [toward you], you’d want to get out of the way,” said NASA’s Kenneth Edgett, a scientist with Malin Space Science Systems. “This is the squirting gun for water on Mars”

Picture_4_4 “We’ve found it,” said Michael Meyer, NASA’s lead scientist on their Mars Exploration Program. “Water seems to have flowed on the surface of today’s Mars.” Philip Christensen, a professor from Arizona State University in Tempe, added that the discovery would change NASA’s plans for Mars exploration, not to mention our understanding of the desert world itself.

I am an example of one of the most confused person on earth. I want to believe that there is life on other planets and at the same time the idea that life on Earth was begun only by a unique combination of ideal weather, ideal meteorite bombardment, ideal distance from the sun, idea placement in the galaxy, ideal this and ideal that, what were the chances that such an “ideal conditions” existed in another planet? Very, very slim.

However, if it is ultimately proven that life exists (in any form) or existed in Mars, then the possibility that it exists in some other form in another part of the universe will increase exponentially.

I want to believe!!

Why Am I Not Surprised?

Richest 2% own ‘half the wealth’

The richest 2% of adults in the world own more than half of all household wealth, according to a new study by a United Nations research institute.

The report, from the World Institute for Development Economics Research at the UN University, says that the poorer half of the world’s population own barely 1% of global wealth
…………..

The analysis shows, as have many other less comprehensive studies, striking divergences in wealth between countries.

Wealth is heavily concentrated in North America, Europe and some countries in the Asia Pacific region, such as Japan and Australia.

These countries account for 90% of household wealth.

And that is the truth, ladies and gentlemen. No matter how much you can rah-rah about India and China having great economies. The population in these two countries are still the poorest of the poor.

All Right!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — agsharma @ 11:23 am

I had never liked Michael Ignatieff especially his stand on the Iraq war and his support for coercive interrogation by the US. Anyone who is for the Iraq war is a big no-no in my books. So I was really glad when he lost the leadership of the Liberal party. And the icing on the cake was that Stephen Dion won the leadership battle. I like his stand on environment issues and his bureaucratic background. I think he is going to be excellent balance to Tories hawkish politicians. Congrats Mr. Dion!!
